Healing Strides Counselling is partnered with Modern Mom Massage Therapy
What is massage therapy?Massage therapy is a form of manual manipulation of the body's soft tissues, including muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues. It involves various techniques, such as kneading, pressing, stroking, and tapping, to promote relaxation, alleviate pain, improve circulation, and enhance overall well-being. Massage therapy can be tailored to meet individual needs, whether for relaxation, stress relief, rehabilitation, or sports performance. It is commonly used to reduce muscle tension, relieve chronic pain, improve range of motion, and support mental and emotional health by reducing stress and promoting relaxation. Massage therapists use their hands, fingers, elbows, and sometimes tools to apply pressure and movement to specific areas of the body, depending on the desired therapeutic outcome.

Massage therapy offers a wide range of physical and psychological benefits.
Psychological Benefits of Massage Therapy
Psychologically, massage is effective in reducing stress by lowering levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) and increasing serotonin and dopamine, which promote relaxation and a sense of well-being. It can help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression by decreasing cortisol levels, and regular massage has been shown to improve sleep quality by reducing stress and promoting relaxation. This contributes to a better mood overall, as increased levels of serotonin and dopamine are associated with feelings of happiness. |
Physical Benefits of Massage Therapy
Physically, massage helps reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and relieve pain. By promoting better blood flow, massage enhances oxygen and nutrient delivery to tissues, aiding in recovery and overall health. Regular massage can alleviate chronic pain conditions, such as back pain, arthritis, and migraines, by relaxing tense muscles and releasing endorphins. It also stimulates the lymphatic system, helping to eliminate toxins from the body and improve immune function. Additionally, massage can increase range of motion by reducing muscle tightness and improving joint flexibility, and some studies suggest it can lower blood pressure, particularly in those with hypertension. |
Beyond these physical and psychological benefits, massage therapy can also boost immune function by reducing stress and improving circulation. Certain techniques, especially those involving essential oils, can improve skin tone and elasticity by increasing blood flow to the skin. Overall, massage therapy is a versatile tool for enhancing both physical and mental health, making it a popular choice for relaxation, pain management, and overall well-being.
