Animal Assisted Psychotherapy at Healing Strides!
We love animals! Some members of the staff at Healing Strides are in the process of obtaining certification in Animal Assisted Therapy. Our counselors team with animals to quickly help clients join in the therapy process to eliminate behavior problems and achieve emotional stability. Often clients who have not done well with other forms of therapy thrive when working with teams including animals. Right now two of our counselors use dogs in the office!
The animals are used to facilitate the treatment process. We have found many clients enjoy working with the animals or simply holding them for comfort during the session. The animals are integrated in many ways, both metaphorically and directly. By enlisting the client’s help, for example, in developing a behavior plan for the therapy animal, the client not only learns the same skills, but is also developing problem-solving skills and empathy
